'Mel@drama'
aims to develop and inspire local talent. To provide a place where
committed and determined people, young and old alike, can learn the
craft of Acting in a safe, secure and professional Environment.'
Mel@drama was set up 3 years ago by Mel and her partner Will Travis
(Where The Heart Is, Torchwood, Casualty, Between The Sheets, Shameless).
Will inspired Mel to set up the school as he already runs his own school
in Leigh called 'A Will & a Way' and Mel had been teaching for
several years at stage schools around the northwest. Since joining
forces, the schools have gone from strength to strength. Several pupils
have already appeared in TV Commercials including Comet, Ufindus, Lego,
Persil, Clarks, and many others have appeared in professional shows.
Jack Smart has appeared as a guest lead in New Street Law and Joseph
Slack plays Bryn Williams in Grange Hill. We are hoping more of our
pupils will grace the small and big screen before the year is out.

All pupils will take part in at least one production a year. We pride
ourselves in the standard of our shows and expect pupils to attend extra
rehearsals during their ‘show term’. All pupils will have one showcase
a year when friends and family are invited to come and see the pupils
progress and work. During classes pupils start with a full body and vocal
warm up. Concentration, confidence & team building games are usually
played. Classes vary from week to week, but all pupils will cover the
following topics during their acting training at Mel@drama: Improvisation,
Script work (from Shakespeare to Eastenders!) Sight Reading, Speech and
Diction, Physicality, Mime, Stage Combat, devising & directing…..
There is no bigger buzz than when a pupil walks through the door on their
first day, shy and quiet, with little or no self confidence and then
leaves us eventually to pursue dreams (whether acting or not) a confident,
outgoing and happy!
All the classes are taught by Mel and Will. They are fully trained actors,
LAMDA teachers and CRB checked/first aid trained. Class sizes are set
at 15 pupils with classes to suit all ages and abilities (from 3 years – adults),
we also offer some classes in Musical Theatre, LAMDA and Trinity College
Acting and Musical Theatre Exams.
Classes are held at Ashton Methodist Church, Wellington Road, Ashton,
Preston, PR2 1BX.
Please call Mel or E mail for more information on class times and prices.
