About Melanie
Mel hails from Preston, Lancashire but now lives in Horwich with her son. As a child she appeared on kids TV show 'Wac 90' and also 'Come Dancing' - by the age of 15 she was dancing professionally and was British Open and Closed Latin American Formation Champion training at 'Dancers' in Preston. She also trained in Ballet, Tap and Modern at The Margaret Bagshaw School Of Dance, and was a founder member of the original Preston Youth Theatre back in 1988. She attended Ashton High School and became an accomplished musician in the band, playing alto sax and violin and touring Holland on three occasions. She took her A levels at Preston College before attending Manchester Metropolitan University where she gained a BA Hons in Creative Arts (Acting and Directing).
Her first professional job after graduating was at 'Butlins' as a Redcoat followed by work as a professional dancer and then singer/musician. Several 'theatre in education' shows later she was eventually spotted by an agent and signed up, her first TV job being a TV commercial for conservatories!
Mel now works as a 'jobbing' actor, and teaches acting Mel@drama - her own school where she also runs an agency securing work for her pupils at Mel@drama and pupils at A Will & a Way - the school run by her ex, good friend and professional actor Will Travis. Mel also specializes in teaching drama and performing arts to adults with learning difficulties - and this is probably her most favorite time of the working week........ when she is not 'on set' that is!
When not working Mel can be found walking with her girlfriend and their children around the very beautiful but chilly Rivington area. She loves eating out (especially Oysters and seafood) and cooking for the people she loves. She likes travel and recently took a month out to show her 3 year old son Australia and Singapore. Ambitions and dreams include being a 'regular' on a soap, appearing at The Royal Exchange, Oldham Coliseum and Bolton Octagon and also to star in a West End musical. Mel also plans to expand the schools to cover the whole of the north west, and see her pupils appearing regularly on TV, film and the stage.
On a personal level she wants to be a great mum, daughter, step mum and maybe one day get married and have another baby.........
